The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Maternal Child Health (MCH) Program aims to provide comprehensive, coordinated, and family-centered preventative services to pregnant women, post-partum women, infants, and children, including children with special healthcare needs (CSHCN) from birth to 21 years. The National MCH Coordinator works with other coordinators at the national level and manages the Title V Program, providing guidance to the four state MCH Coordinators. Health services in the FSM are delivered at the State level. The FSM is an island nation with a population of approximately 103,000 spread over 607 islands. It is politically associated with the United States, and English is used as a common language across the four FSM states, with varying levels of proficiency. The MCH Program conducted a needs assessment in 2020 and identified seven priorities that will guide MCH-related activities and funding during 2020-2025. Challenges cited in the 2021 Summary Statement include the need for evidence-based strategies and the difficulty in distinguishing priorities from strategies in some domains. The National MCH Program scheduled an in-person working meeting with the Pohnpei State MCH and Family Planning Programs’ staff and other public health programs’ staff to develop the FSM MCH Action Plan for 2023 based on feedback from the 2021 Summary Statement.
